Motorola, Inc. the renowned frontrunner in wireless and broadband communications today announced here of its renewal and expansion of its membership in the Chicago Climate Exchange the world's first but North America's no more than voluntary and legally binding greenhouse gas emissions reduction, registry and trading system. The Company has affirmed that through attaining the membership of Phase II CCX, it has accomplished the task of tracking and reporting greenhouse gas emissions along with the attainment of a 6 percent diminution in its greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2010, which to the present calculation is below a year 2000 baseline.

Motorola is renowned throughout the world for its innovative techniques and leadership in wireless and broadband communications. Being inspired by the vision of Seamless Mobility, the name of Motorola has become synonymous to get and stay connected simply and seamlessly to the people, information, and entertainment. The company excels in this by designing and delivering "must have" products, "must do" experiences, and powerful networks -- along with a full complement of support services.

The Motorola also prides to proclaim that through the attainment of the membership of CCX it has become the first one first member to incorporate in its commitment, all of its worldwide manufacturing sites in the international arena that at present are not covered by the regulatory emissions reduction requirements of the Kyoto Protocol signatories and the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EUETS). It has been stated in this regard that the CCX commitment will therefore include sites in several countries such as Brazil, China, India, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States, which in turn enables Motorola to attain the status of the first global member of CCX. It is to be mentioned, that the CCX as a part of its preamble institutes a legally binding reduction obligation. The bona fide members who are in positions for the reduction of emissions beyond the pledge happen to be in a position to put up for sale surplus allowances to other members. However, it is also stated tat the participants who in gradual course fail to meet the reduction commitments have to get hold of allowances to achieve compliance.

The Vice President of Environment, Health and Safety for Motorola Jodi Shapiro said in this respect,  "Motorola is working proactively to manage our impact on climate change by reducing our carbon footprint, using renewable energy and reducing our products' energy usage." "We value the CCX's innovative, collective approach to addressing climate change and believe Motorola can make a bigger impact when we work together with others, " he added.
