AtmelĀ® Corporation the renowned organization in designing and manufacturing of microcontrollers and advanced logic announced here today of the industry's first 1-Mbit device in an 8-lead TSSOP ( 4.4mm) package. It has also been affirmed, that being the prevalent manufacturer of Serial EEPROMs worldwide, the Company puts forward the industry's widest product portfolio of Serial EEPROMs & Flash in 2-wire, SPI and 3-wire protocols.

Atmel, founded in 1984, is a renowned leader in the design and manufacture of microcontrollers, advanced logic, mixed-signal, nonvolatile memory and radio frequency (RF) components. The company through influencing one of the industry's broadest intellectual property (IP) technology portfolios, has been able to provide the electronics industry with complete system solutions. It is recorded as one of the minority elite new companies who are capable of incorporating dense nonvolatile memory, logic and analog functions on a single chip. The Atmel chips are manufactured through the usage of the most advanced wafer processes that includes BiCMOS, CMOS and Silicon Germanium (SiGe) technologies. It is also found to be concentrating on consumer, industrial, security, communications, computing and automotive markets.

The AT24C1024B is the Company's latest contribution of the 2-wire family of devices that is designed with Atmel's advanced EEPROM technology while making it possible to fit a 1-Mbit EEPROM in an 8-lead TSSOP package. In the past, the maximum obtainable density by the industry was a 512K-bit. The AT24C1024B is also available in a SO8 narrow body, and 150mil JEDEC SOIC ( 3.8mm) and features a 2-wire protocol with clock frequency up to 1MHz. It features two input addresses that are engaged in the provision of designers with maximum flexibility to cascade up to four AT24C1024B devices on the same bus escalating the overall storage density up to 4-Mbit.

The AT24C1024B is operated from 1.8V to 5.5V and is ideal for a wide range of consumer, industrial and medical applications. It is also learnt that TSSOP package makes manufacturers of digital cameras, game cards, PDAs and other portable consumer products able to increase the memory capacity for storage, while offering slimmer and lighter products.

Mr. Bassam Khoury, the Managing Director of Atmel in the Serial Interface Product Line said when asked by the Press gathering said, "A 1-Mbit, 2-wire Serial EEPROM device in 8-lead TSSOP packages is another first from Atmel. This is in direct response to many of our customers' requests for a Serial EEPROM device in space and height constrained applications."
